The Improved Toll House Chocolate Chip Cookie

COOK’S NOTE

Here is some trivia for you.  Nestle coined the phrase chocolate morsel not chips for their chocolate.

chocolate chips have less cocoa butter so they keep their shape during baking and are proffered over chopped chocolate.

 

Ingredients

  • 1 cup salted butter

  • 3/4 cup sugar

  • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar

  • 2 eggs

  • 2 teaspoons vanilla

  • 1 tsp vanilla more vanilla

  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 teaspoon baking soda

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

  • Maldon flaky sea salt

INSTRUCTIONS

In the bowl of an electric mixer, beat butter with sugars until smooth. Add eggs, one at a time, and beat until light and fluffy, about 5 minutes; stopping to scrape the bowl if needed add vanilla. In a separate bowl, combine flour, baking soda and salt; add to butter mixture until blended. Stir in chocolate chips. Refrigerate mixture for 30 minutes before scooping.

Preheat oven to 350°F.

Using an ice cream scoop, onto parchment-lined cookie sheet, to 1/2-inch thickness. Bake for 5 minutes or until golden. Remove from oven and immediately cut into hearts with heart-shaped cookie cutter. Cool.
